Other Races

Well, if as you probably found out by now, there is rumors of GW2.....but more importantly, it features new races-Human, Charr but more importantly

Norns, Asurians, and Slyvarians

None of them have ANY previous reference in lore so.......

Discuss

and also, please please do not flame me, with some vairation of

"thats BS, the inquirers obviously lying"....if you truely feel this thread is worthless, just click the skull and crossbones sign in the righthand corner, and the mods will come and close it.

my thoughts are-

Slyvarians. they sound like elves, slyvan in MTG was a tribe of elves, and I am not happy about that . but a second guess are the slyvarians are druids, before they turned to spirits. Whatever the case, slyvan has to do with nature, so expect a naturey race

Asurians-hmmmmm, If my geek lore :P is correct arent there a exinct race in stargate with a name awefully like these guys? ...and GW has borrowed ALOT of things from stargate as described in another thread

Norn

according to dictionary.com

Quote:

any of three goddesses of fate, the goddess of the past (Urd), the goddess of the present (Verdandi), and the goddess of the future (Skuld).

(in norse Myth)

honestly, I have no clue, but maybe

WILD SPECULATION ALERT

they have a time travel device that can bring our beloved chars (characters....not charr) into TEH FUTURE |||Maybe the Slyvarians, Asurians and the Norns are just names for different human people descending from different lands?|||but then why does it say Humans, charr, assurian, slyvan, norns, wouldnt it just be assurian, slyvan, norns, charr?|||Oh my bad.

Maybe they are races that will show up in Eye of the North?|||Speaking on a hypothetical basis for now (that's IF the info is correct), I imagine they will be introduced in Eye of the North, or GW2, 100 years later.|||During pre-Factions they also said new races were going to be released, what they didn't clarify was the fact that these races were not going to be playable but merely people or things we would run into.

Eye Of The North wont have any races but if GW2 is in the making no doubt they would add races to help support it for market purposes.|||I believe races would add a vast flavor to this game. While ibeleive the original document in the Inquerer was fake (though it speaks on some possible features to be added in GW, Gaile couldn't denney the next chapter has new missions and skills right?) this is a good topic to discuss.

Charrs are quite inteligent and the fact that they found out that their Titan gods where just using them to reach their means, the charrs could become peacefull with humans. They are closed minded and only did the terrible thing they have done to please their false gods, but there are charrs that aren't that sort of evil (i'm thinging in the charr army families and villages in the north, and live without any contact with the ravages of war, as for today i never saw a female charr or a charr pup).

What do you guys think? Do charrs have social life beyond war or not really? I'm willing o give them a secound chance to redem them selfs.|||No Tengu race.

The Norn, with their Norse-ish background, could be a nation of dwarves, demanding political correctness and freedom of Winter Dwarves.

The Slyvarians... I doubt Elves. It would really be the last straw for most people, but a race of druids isn't totally out of the question.

The Asurians... Never heard the name, so I'll leave the conjecture to those who know about it, or the apparent Stargate-link. I'd hazard a guess at a Mursaat-style race, what with, if my memories recalls, another Stargate-esque thing to do with Ascension, and what we know/theorise of how the Mursaat got their powers.

The Charr... This was sort of inevitable, in a way. Free from the oppressing rule/worship of the Titans, they could prosper in many ways. While the dwarves - or norn, if you wish - thrive in their research of gunpowder-based product, the Charr could flourish with fire-based technology, in whatever context you can derive from a more-than-unsubtle 100-year gap (it could be 30 years and we'd be knocked out of the fray - 100 years seems a bit... 'woo, chance for advanced technology in certain ways').|||Well the article has been partially denied by Gaile, so in the case of the races I doubt there true, and I doubt they'd appear in this format in the final release but anyway...

Charr

Seems obvious who these are :P

Norns

Tad Williams wrote about these in his Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series where they are basically evil, a bit Norse-like elves. So it's hard for me to seperate my image from that. Although there also the Goddesses reffered to above, so maybe they are just a Scandinavian-like race.

Sylvarians

I'm going for the nature race. However I'd expect them to be more Warden like than elf-like. Both walk the woods, are very naturally adapt and thus the name fits both of them however, Wardens already exist and are new to RPing lore, or at leats there GW incarnation is new.

They would need to be smaller though.

Wikipedia has no entry remotely like Sylvarians, so I doubt there existant in any other fantasy game.

Asurians

For soem reason I immediately think of Mesopatymia (no idea if thats been spelled correctly, the lands in the middle East, the Cradle of Civilization, yaddayadda you all know). Hmmmm, couldn't think of a specific race only a sub culture of humans.

Also assuming the article is correct about the races they also stated that the races included Sylvarians, Charr, Humans, Norns and Asurians, which would mean Tengu is still a possibility.|||Quote:
