We know that several proffessions have patron gods, they are:
Warriors-Balthazaar
Monks-Dwayna
Rangers-Melandru
Mesmers-Lyssa
Necromancers-Grenth
Assassins-Lyssa
Ritualists-Grenth
Paragon-Dwayna and Balthazaar
Dervishes have several different forms, so they serve not one single god, but rather devoting their time to only one at a time.
Elementalists have no patron god at all, but rather, their element of choice is their patron-god-dude.
Questions:
-Why do Dervishes and Elementalists have patron gods that change so?
-Were these 2 groups neglected to be accpeted by one single god?|||Assassins are Grenth and Lyssa.
The Elementist seeks knowledge from all sources, and the nature of the Dervish as a devout follower makes them worship all gods equally.|||What would a "patron god" do for it's followers?|||The magic that you see the various professions use, comes from the realm of that god. Otherwise, I assume that the gods are like the various saints of Catholicism or gods of paganism, where each one governs a sphere and to recieve blessings in or of that sphere, you have to pray to that specific god/saint/being.|||Isn't Balth a patron god of Monks as well? Smiting anyone?|||Also there are evidence that there are elementalists who tends to rivet toward a school of an element and look down upon others. For instance Ralena Stormbringer in Foible's Fair favors Air Magic and looks down on Aziure for her preference of the Fire Magic. You can see this from the dialogue for the quest "The Supremacy of Air.".
Baltazar is a patron god of Monks as well.|||Hmmm.
When I have my characters in fanfic talk about the gods, or pray to them, it matters more what the situation is. For instance during an intense battle, the characters will mention Balthazar most likely, hoping he'll look favorably on them...their class does not matter.
As a side note, I've noticed in Elona that the dervishes seem to have a special affection for Melandru.|||I think Dervishes usually like Melandru because of Earth Prayers, similar to Dwayna and Wind Prayers.
Elementalists aren't patroned to their own "elementalist" god because each god has their own element assigned to them and the elementalist chooses his own path. Dervishes on the other hand are blessed by all gods and devote themselves to all of them. That's why they get to use avatars.
Also, neither class seems to be "neglected" by gods. It would seem it would have to be the other way around.|||Monks in Healing pray to Dwayna. Monks on Smiting and some protection go for Balthazar. It says so in the Manuscript for Prophecies at least.
Like Quintus said. Assasins go for Lyssa and Grenth.|||its also a regional thing.
Lyssa is sort of the patron godess of Vabbi ...
