as for the afflicted it were shiro who spreaded the plague which turns a mortal into a afflicted.

Well the afflicted are diseased by their contact with Shiro who are a pawn of Abaddon.
I think there's some speculation in the Lore forum that the Scarab Plague was caused by Dhuum (the former god of death) who is in league with Abaddon.|||Moved to the Lore Forum...|||Personally, I don't see a connection. The Affliction is a spiritual disease. The creatures you are seeing are actually the corrupted souls of those who have died. Whereas, the Scarab Plague, from descriptions in-game, was a disease characterized by boils that then hatched into scarab larvae, when the larvae matured, they either ate the inards of the host, or hatched forth from the skin causing massive systems damage. A Perplexing Plague quest (The Astrarium outpost, NF character only) and its 4 followup quests give you nice amout of lore an on that.|||Zweistein beat me to it.
