Hello everyone,
Some of you may have noticed that many popular and large threads related to Eye of the North, and some other topics, have disappeared from the Lore Forum seemingly without explanation.
As you may or may not have seen, yesterday the forums were down while new servers were installed. Unfortunately, the forums were rolled back after the installation and all threads from that period were lost.
Shortly before the rollback, a North Tyrian Lore Forum was created in order to house the lore from the upcoming Guild Wars expansion. Upon creation of this forum, I moved Eye of the North related threads into the new forum, as a means of further organization. Because this happened during that "magical" period before the forums went down, but during the rollback effected period, the Northern Tyrian Lore Forum, and all threads moved into it have been deleted, most likely without a chance of recovery.
I am making this announcement to let everyone know what happened, and to let you know that this is not some sort of censorship or data supression. I was hit harder than anyone here, as my ANet approved review of Eye of the North and my thread on the Mursaat Rally have both been lost, probably forever. Quite literally weeks of my work have been destroyed, so I am hurting along with the rest of the people who contributed to those threads. I grieve with you on this loss, as it is a huge blow to the Lore Forum's database.
Rushster and Elly are looking into the problem, but so far it looks as if the data is unrecoverable.
Please accept my heartfelt apologies for this, and for the inconvienances it has caused. As I said, I'm in the boat with you on this one. But, hopefully we can recover from this loss of data.|||Well...that sucks...|||This makes baby Rurik cry. :(
Seriously, it's terrible, and I hope some of the data can be recovered - while the Mursaat Rally was a resounding success, evidently heard by Anet, it seems... weird not having that ever-so-popular and superb thread here. And the analysis of the PC Gamer article was excellent, and there's still much about GW:EN that can be extracted from articles and such. Long live Dave the undeterminable Creature.
Any plans to make a new North Tyria section, or does it depend on what information can be salvaged?
(But, doesn't it sort of limit discussion options, considering there's the whole Catacombs and the Tarnished Coast to ponder over?)|||I have faith in Rush and Elly, they are highly competent and skilled programmers and administrators who have years of experience. If there is a way to recover the information, they will find it.|||Uh, couldn't everything have been backed up before the rollback?
Just a thought...|||It was, but I updated the stuff in that magical minute between the backup and the rollback.|||Ah.
What a kick in the face. |||Maybe for next time, keep backups (as in, txt-files) of the articles on your computer? It can be quite a saver.|||Well, I had no idea that we were installing new servers, or I'd have been a bit more careful. As for backing up articles, I just don't have the energy for that, haha.|||I blame the Asura.
