Guild Wars World Map, 3rd Ed.

Here we go:

The Guild Wars Tyria World Map (v3.0)

There's two versions, one with a folded, textured background and the second without.

With Background:

This map includes all three continents, and the Battle Ilses; Labels all continents, regions, outposts, towns, lakes, seas and most of the notable landmarks on the surface; Outlines almost all bodies of water, bridges that cross them as well as most mountain ranges and some hills.

At the bottom I've included a reference for the various calendars systems in Tyria, and a legend of the symbols used on the map.



Stuff not on the Map

The map shows the surface of the Tyrian World and does not show the Realms of the Gods, Hall of Heroes, Realm of Torment or the Depths of Tyria.



Relative positions of Continents

This world map is based on the official continental maps found on guildwars.com, in the game and on the official game posters. These maps are the main source of information for what�s in this world map. But since there�s no official source for the positions and relative sizes we need to do some digging.

Each continent was first rescaled using Ranger Nietzsche�s excellently researched ratios then positioned based on the guesses and assumptions listed below.

- The Eye of the North version of the Tyria continent is the at the top of the map, all sources point to it having the highest latitudes in the world so far revealed.

- Elona is always referred to as south of Tyria, and contains part of crystal desert. The only reference point given to the exact location is the view of the Female Warrior statue from Crystal Overlook (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Crystal_Overlook#Notes). Unfortunately as shown in this image: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Image:E...connection.jpg, triangulation of the statue makes an impossible geography. So my approach was to take the viewing angle of the statue from the position of the Teleporter and the Forgotten Guardian. The assumption I made was that this Teleporter was *meant* to aim at the statue, so I drew an axis between the Teleporter in Crystal Outlook and the Statue in the Arid Sea with the Crystal Outlook�s Statue lying along this line:





Using this axis, I could �slide� Elona farther south east while keeping the Teleporter and Status aligned. I moved Elona far enough south so that I could make a reasonable shoreline linking it to Tyria. Also Elona couldn�t be too far since the Statue in the Arid Sea still fully visible from The Desolation.

- Cantha was positioned primarily because of Jatoro Musagi�s line �I hail from the southwest, where the great island of Shing Jea rests upon clear cool shores.� I put Cantha almost directly due South West of Elona, and South of Tyria because of Jiaju Tai�s line: "Cantha lies south (of Kryta), across the ocean ... past the ruins of Orr, past the islands of fire, past the crystal lands of burning sun, and beyond the clashing seas.�

- The Battle Isles is mentioned as being Canthan, so I made the assumption that it lies closer to Cantha and that it�s not directly between Cantha and Elona since it�s not mentioned in Jiaju Tai�s list of places on the way to Cantha. I put roughly in the middle of the three continents and slightly closer to Cantha.

*prints out the map and hugs it*|||It's nothing huge and it might not even be significant, but you missed the Talmark Pillars. Also, I'm fairly sure that the statue we see from the Crystal Overlook isn't the same one as in the Arid Sea. Although I agree it might have been put there simply to show the portal's relation to the Arid Sea in location.|||Wow, that is amazing! I split it from the old thread and stickied it. Simply awesome! Pointing out the missing things is exactly what i need ;) . I'm making a list of stuff to add to the next revision (3.1) and hopefully i'll be able to correct any mistakes in the next pass.

I didn't put the Talmark Pillars in because they aren't mentioned in either wiki (even though their picture is right there!) so i didn't know what their official name might be, but i'll put them in the next revision. i was trying to at least get in the most recognizable landmarks, and especially those mentioned in quests.

So far, stuff to fix:

- Sunward Marches area name missing

- Fixing minor cosmetic overlapping mountains

- Add Temple of the Unseen

- Add Talmark Pillars

I'll put out a new revision possibly in a week or two fixing these and any other major errors/omissions found.

aus|||One thing I did notice is that the Central Transfer Chamber seems to be missing from the map.

Also, I'm not sure if it's given a proper name or not, but the Hierophant's stronghold in Sacnoth Valley might be worth noting.|||Central Transfer Chamber is part of the Depths of Tyria, which has been said of that they weren't in the map.

You should probably add the Ancient Monastery to Sanctum Cay, the location where you first meet up with Khilbron. I'd suggest adding Ventari's Sanctuary in Arbor Bay as well.

Another one you may want to consider adding is Graggult's Keep in the Deldrimor Bowl, the abandoned Dwarven settlement that's now overrun with Centaur. There used to be a somewhat hidden signpost near the location with the label Graggult's Keep, but it was removed at some point.|||This map is looking great so far! Perhaps you should add the arenas that are now only accessible through RA and TA, since they are still geographically in their original locations. I'm thinking Fort Koga, Ahmtur Arena, The Crag, Brawler's Pit etc. Also, perhaps the Sulfurous Wastelands and Dzalana from this map should be added.

But yeah, great job! It looks fantastic, and I hope you're proud of it :)
