Perhaps I've been reading too much lore on the Order of Whispers, but I was thinking of organizing a guild and perhaps even an alliance of those who like to do in-game research. The main purpose of this would be the convenience of conveying ideas quickly amongst one another and easy organization of teams for research purposes. The organization of the alliance, if there were to be one, would be something like the following:
Alliance Leader-Has a guild hall where everyone can meet to organize themselves and team up and discuss things. Basically the launching point.
Tyrian Branch-This guild would be made up of those familiar with the Tyrian areas of Prophecies and would be referred to in an event of research in those areas.
Canthan Branch-Same as above.
Elonian Branch-Same as Tyrian Branch.
Northern Tyrian Branch-This consists of the areas introduced in Eye of the North, and like the Tyrian branch would be made up of those familiar with these areas and dungeons.
This is simply an idea, mind you, and may see the light of day if there's enough interest.|||Would love it though I doubt there will be enough people interested.|||Honestly don't see the point, at least not right now. Maybe when GW2 gets closer to release, because that will bring a flood of lore. As of right now though, there just isn't that much outstanding, unresolved lore-based questions that we could hope to find answers for in-game. We know everything there is to know; any new theories anyone comes up with until GW2's release would be basically speculation based on scant evidence, and the theories in this forum.
In short: I don't see what a lore-based guild could accomplish that can't be done by individuals posting here, since there's just not terribly much that can be accomplished at this time. In my opinion, of course.|||That is a good point, but there's almost always something tiny to be found in Tyria. Like that disc mentioned in the Northern Tyrian section, for instance.
That aside, it would be best to organize into an alliance now, so that whenever GW2 comes it's easier to gather information. However, I do see your point.|||I'd be in favor of this idea, mostly because, well, I'm Guildless causing my playtime to drop like a brick...
On the other hand, what it would be at the moment is like most other Guilds, do stuff around the world until we find something discussable. Of which very little remains to be honest.
Another problem is that I'm fairly sure a lot of people who visit and contribute to this forum are already in a Guild. You can't really expect them to change so easily, and you can't expect their entire Guild to be Lorecrazed enough to merge as well.
For now, I'd say a single Lore Guild might be enough if you're making one.
If it gets large enough, we could always expand to continent branches (you're also assuming all 3 continents will be available in GW2), and that could leave enough room for already existing Guilds to join.
I like the idea for GW2 though, and if it needs more people, I'd be up for it.
BTW, wasn't there some kind of Lore Guild before? I could be mistaking of course...|||You're not mistaken, there used to be something similar to a guild around here. It was called the Tyrian Academy of Sciences, but it just kind of..disappeared.
I completely understand what you and Skyy are saying though Jack. It really would just be like any other guild at the moment and I also realized that it would be entirely likely if not certain that most frequenters are already in a guild.
I think you're right, that at the moment it would be best to go with a singular guild idea, but if possible, expand into separate branches. That was actually the initial idea, the secondary idea was to expand into an alliance.
Edit: If you'd like to discuss this further in-game and I'm online, feel free to contact me. I'll probably be online in the name below.|||Wel i think its a good idea, and my guildmates are my friends so they wil understand it..
The Order of Tyria's History :P
But its a good idea|||No, I say we must call ourselves the Tyrian History Order!|||Several ideas I'd been tossing around were:
Sanctum of Meditation and Study [SoMS]
Tyrian Academy of Sciences [TAoS]
Order of Whispers [OoW]
And one that couldn't even begin to fit within the character limit:
League of Research and Enlightenment [LoRE]
Suggestion by a friend:
Halls of Chokhin [HoC]|||My suggestion was actually a small parody to a South Park episode where there was a war in the future on how they'd call themselves, United Atheist Alliance, Atheist Alliance, etc...
I support Order of Whispers. Simply because they're kewl and remind of the Spanish Inquisition from Monty Python.
