It seems to me that GW2 will be using what appears to be a Jedi model to deal with the Sunspears in GW2.
I think this for several reasons given in the official wiki on the state of Elona at the start of GW2. Following are several quotes that I will use as the basis for this impression.
Good sunspears after the order was formally crushed- aka jedi-
"They became wandering mystics, philosophers, and lone warriors in a world that chose to forget their presence."
Bad sunspears (Mordant Crescent) after fall of the order- aka sith-
"Each one, converted personally by Palawa, was given power over death and sent out to hunt down and destroy their fellow Sunspears-- or bring them before their lord to be drawn into their unholy cause."
It seems to me that a Jedi/Sith type conflict is being laid out. Sunspears, once the peace keepers and holy warriors of Elona are crushed, and then replaced by fallen members of their own order, who are evil, dark, have power over death, and lead armies to conquer and subdue the world.
I realize that the sunspears don't have unusual powers that other organizations lack (Excluding PvE only skills). However, I think it is possible that Kormir may bless those few Sunspears left in GW2, and or, perhaps their knowledge, so throughly removed and forgotten from the world by GW2 time, will afford them abilities and insight that is perceived as supernatural.
It could make for an interesting story line and conflict type in the future. Especially if one of these sunspears has a prophecy of a descendant of Ossa that will lead to the eventual overthrow of Palawa (Palpatine).
Anyways, just some thoughts on the future of the sunspears and how Anet might be thinking of implementing it in GW2.
What do you think?|||i thought the same but remember that ancient organisations that were crushed and now had a few secret members wandering around and a few that were evil is the core of most fantasy|||I think these aren't the droids you're looking for.
While there may be parallels, let's not forget that there's any number of undergraduate psychology papers written every year about the number of Jungian archetypes in Star Wars. Some parallels are to be expected, but remember that there was only one Jedi left in the main script in Star Wars. I should hope there will be at least a Shining Blade number of Sunspears left.|||I am not arguing that it will be a carbon copy of Star Wars story lines.
I do find the parallels to be interesting, and pretty strong. I am curious to see if they take them much farther.
(By the way themagicmoedee, you may want to specific what you mean by main script. If it is A New Hope there is only Ben, but Yoda comes in Empire Strikes Back, and Luke is a jedi by the Return of the Jedi. Also there is the novels that expand the Star Wars universe, and even the final movie implies that more jedi will come, that they are a force returning to the universe. Oh and I quite enjoyed your opening line!)|||I did notice the parallels, yes, but I think it won't be exactly the same. While it's true that the Sunspears do have a number of unique, powerful skills taught only to those in their organisation, they're hardly on the same level of power as the Force skills the Jedi use.
Besides, if the Sunspears are the Jedi, then what are the Order of Whispers? |||Heh, didn't notice that actually, but there was a faint tickling in the back of my mind when I read about it. We do know that Elona (specifically Gandara, and the mission Poghan Passage) is chock full of Star Wars references, so obviously ANet enjoys throwing references like that at us.|||I don't believe the Sunspear plot is following that of Star Wars. For one, the sith existed and were most numerous (I presume) prior to the fall of the jedi, which isn't the case with the Sunspears and the Mordant Crescent. The users of the Force have always been split in two, but the schism within the Sunspear organization only seems to have occurred recently and in the wake of great adversity.
To be honest I feel a closer parallel could be drawn between Elona and a corrupt city. Palawa Joko is like a mob boss who's taken control of the city with his influence, and now has a corrupt police force (the Mordant Crescent) working for him.|||My char is like a Jedi... it would be great if ANET decided to allow us to gain acess to our current storage from GW2 and somehow import our sunspears to GW2 like some wacked out time thing... current chars got stuck in torment for 200 years

What do you think?
I think it's cool sunspears do have powers the dervish they turn into gods.If anything I would say that sunspear would be more powerful than a jedi. The pargon are heaven bodies that strengthen an army of men, Plus fly or hover some thing jedi's can't do. Did you take a look at their eyes. Sunspears were made to beat other gods while protecting their "gods". That being said sunspears seem to want to protect elona at costs question is why. Why not orr or triya to as well. Everyone said pargon eyes it was like dune in beta. Anet after tuned down the glowing eyes bite.
Thing is what will a curput sunspears look like. I would agree with you it would have been cooler if the sunspears had more power. There is alot more sunspears around than the jedi. You have sunspears than seem to want to travel. I am sure they will be sunspears hiding out in kayta and other stuff. I think pargons will have a hard time hiding lol because of their "blues". Maybe with the aid of the mesmers pargons hide well. Not only that pargons could getting away from joko alot faster than dervish. Then you have to think about the whispers use and work with the sunspears. Jedi don't work with other groups.
whispers is another order with in the sunspears. Whisper seem to have powers agisnt evil stuff only. They seem to know more than the sunspears and do give the sun spears orders to do.
Now here is the kicker the char don't know about sunspears yet! lol Save maybe "pre" and his warband because he ends up working with you and joins your group. they are bent on killing all humans. Now char and sunspears truely never met yet, but then agin char have not met cantha too as well..
norn they know about sunspears in fact they have one living among them. hint hint the dervish "the hero Kahmu". norn know that sun spears are strong fighters because of your charactor and the dervish. I wonder how will than change the norn to have sun spear among them.|||I think this is all a bit crazy. If anything the Sunspears are following the human model. We already have people in the Sunspears who are just there for power, it isn't too hard for me to believe that some of them would take the offer of power and living. Then as the generations went on, it just becomes a tradition.
