Hello all. Love the lore section. I was wanting to try and RP a Paragon toon and have been not able to discern a timeline for this character. So some quick questions as my searches have yielded zero results.
1. Guildwiki states that in 1072AE is when both Shiro and the Lich tried their attempts at power, but current day Nightfall is supposedly 1075AE. So am I to assume that there is a "gray area" concerning where a character is created to allow for when they decide to enter other campaigns? I mean no matter what, wether I go from Cantha or Elona to LA, all missions start chronologically from D'Allessio Seaboard in Chap. 1 and Viz Square for Chap.2
2. Since Abbadon seems to be the antagonist for all 3 chaps. Why didn't ANET just make the starting point for all 3 chaps 1070AE so we don't have to see annoying text about reliving past events? I mean the Searing, the release of the Plague, and Nightfall all happening at once would have been Ideal for adventurers. Yes? No? In order to truly RP a Nightfall toon, I'll have to pretend that everything prior to Seaboard and Viz Square are just exploration zones, which seems stupid and takes some wind out of my RP sails, lol.
Any insights into this would be most helpful to me. I just want to know how best to flesh out my Paragons Background story as well as tidy up my existing characters lives also.|||Quote:

As far as canon goes, Factions takes place about 2 months after Prophecies, which ends in the Season of the Scion of 1072. The only reason the missions still follow chronologically like they do is so the game experience remains the same.

Jeff Grubb wasn't hired at a storywriter until after the release of Factions, when they released the first campaigns they would have put a lot of foreshadowing in, but mostly red herrings because they wouldn't know exactly what it was they were foreshadowing.|||Actually, I believe Jeff Grubb was in fact on the writing team, or at least a consultant, before Nightfall. He was hired as the lead writer for Nightfall.
Also, although on the surface it appears that we just sit on our hands for three years, this is not so. Between the events of Factions and Nightfall, the Canthan New Year invasion happens, as well as the corruption of the Tomb of Primeval Kings, and the attack on Sorrow's Furnance.|||I believe it is insinuated, although not effectively, by the Travel to Other Campaigns quests that the faeces are hitting the fan everywhere - portals and everything, everywhere. The Tombs and Canthan New Year were just focal points, led by... "generals", so to speak.
There's no true evidence for this, but it seems a little odd to assume that there are only two cases of minor spawns (Olias and Zenmai) in the whole of Tyria, except for Elona where all hell is breaking loose. And I suppose there's clues in the dialogue, but I can't reference that at the moment.
But I wouldn't be surprised if our intrepid heroes got a bit of a break. Perhaps they had an adventure holiday in Ascalon, with such fun activities as Rebuild The Wall and Hold The Lines. All for 5k (based off a family of four)!|||I was trying to search for the official canon for GW but could not find it. If a player has started out from chapter one onwards then RP'ing is easier to do. I was just trying to figure out a way to "tie in" everything going backwards from Nightfall, since NF pretty much explains the whys and wherefores of Chapters One and Two.
This is pretty much a last ditch effort for me to recapture some of the love I've lost for GW. Bored with titles, bored with Farming, bored with grinding,...etc. I figured starting fresh with a new class would get me going again before I throw in the towel and buy TESIV: Oblivion. Where I know I can get lost forever since I played TESIII: Morrowind for almost the better part of 5 years.
If there is a thread with the official canon, can someone link it for me. I only bought the first GW in box form, so I only have the original game manuscript.|||If it's the manuscripts for Factions and Nightfall you're looking for, then there are some on the Guild Wars website, in the 'Gameplay' section.|||The manuscripts won't load for me. I'm out of luck in that regards.
After sitting and looking at the timelines for each chapter. I'm just gonna go with my "Gray Area" theory. Being which that ANET has only given the timelines for when events started and not ended. I'm pretty sure ANET made missions pick up from certain areas in other campaigns due to the fact that by the time a player gets to them. They'd probably just gun for the high level areas first anyways. I mean campiagns could last for years right?
I just thought it anticlimactic for a RP'er who completed NF going into Factions and Prophecies already knowing who is behind the scenes doing the dirt (Abbadon). Also the fact that they already beat Shiro and Lich in NF doesn't help either, lol.
Whereas games where everybody starts from scratch at the start does things chronologically as intended.
I think I'll approach my NF paragon as a toon who starts out in NF, but is taken by Mhenlo to Tyria/Cantha on Khormir's orders (As soon as I get all the necessary skills to survive,lol.) to help our foreign allies with matters essential to the Sunspears success in Elona, beat those two chap.'s and return to NF to finish that story arc.
Sound about right?|||Quote:

It's impossible to get it chronologically sound with a character starting in Nightfall without some sort of a time machine, unfortunately. But you could always start in 1070AE (1520DR) with a Paragon. Remember how General Bayel was Ascalonian who entered the Kournan army and worked his way up the ranks? If the armies had some sort of exchange system then you could start in Kourna, get transferred to Ascalon, and not return to Elona for 5 years, with the timeline completely chronologically correct. You could even have your character exchanged with Bayel himself, which would make the second encounter with him later on somewhat of a twist.|||I applaud to them writier to allow Grenth throwing a spaz at wintersday, it was funny seeing the grinches rushing everyone ownzing everyone lol|||Quote:

??? And that helps me how?
Santax, thanks for that little tidbit of info. That was something along the lines I was going. Too bad Prophicies doesn't have a ranking structure in game.
