In order to help cease my boredom from lack of things to do in GW (as everything left is rather repetitive) and lack of any new interesting games out that I can play (there are games I want but don't have the game system ), I have decided to start a few projects and any help would be much appreciated.
Although there are three projects, one is not really lore related and I don't see how people can help with that (as it is a fan-fiction story I am writing). The two projects that people can help with, if they wanted are:
1) A "Lore Points of Interest" complete guide. I know that some people have made small guides for things such as the bleach bones, and there is a map with all the big points of interest, but the purpose of this guide is to show where the "interesting to look at" and "non-storyline objects" are, such as the crystals and big/interesting ruins throughout Ascalon.
The list of what to include in this guide, or even how to fully set it up, is still under construction, so the help I could use for this, is suggestions for what can be added to the guide, and where they are if they are something small (just what area/mission, I can find the exact location myself unless it is hard to find). So if you have any suggestions on what to add, just say so in this thread.
Also, if you will say that this has been done, even on the large scale I am planning on doing this on, then please give a link to where I may find this guide, as I would like to view it myself to see if it has everything I planned to make (and if it doesn't so I can use that to make the project go faster).
2) I am making a "Lore Journal" with accounts of some lore that I like. I am writing it like it was a journal and it was my character (my ritualist, Xaphan Sariel, to be specific) writing it. If there is a topic that is wanted to be explained from an in-game point of view, please post it and I will consider it. I have a good list of what to go over already, but wouldn't mind looking into more things (and please, nothing relating to Mursaat, I'm rather tired of having things related to them, as they seem to be an overused topic over here in GWO).
Also, a name for this journal is needed, until I think of one, I will be calling it the "Journal of Xaphan Sariel" which is a little long to me and could use a better name, so any thoughts on that would be helpful too.
Any suggestions and help is apprciated and thank you in advance. Also any comments about what you think of these two projects are also welcomed.|||Like I said in Guild Chat, I like the first idea. Your thought to make it into a Flash map (similar to Google maps maybe) could be a bit much to start with though, unless we know someone who is able to write Actionscript apllications (I cold try it in Java, but it'd probably take a lot of time...maybe if I miraculously find it).
In the mean time, I think making a few "first notes" simply with Paint to label some things, it'd be a start and at least we'd have something.
On the second idea, like I said, I don't like it as much. For starters, it'd be a lot of work. Another problem is the possibility of adding subjective information in texts like that, also caused by possible "wrong" deductions or conclusions (only a few theories have ever been proven ingame).
EDIT: crud, now the idea to write a Java application for the map has picked my interest...I might give it a try on a small map...Pre-Searing or something...I don't promise anything or a date though|||Quote:

The possibility of making "wrong" deductions is the only thing that is really preventing me from starting that project. Although I will simply be stating things noticed from in game, and then it would be easy to put in any theories and hypothesis by saying "I believe..." and whatnot. That way, they would be just like the theories on GWO and Guru, but only with a different writing style.
Of course, this make it limited to in-game observations and any out of game texts (like the Ecology of the Charr) may make the journal idea completely invalid as a "character observation." Only way to link out of game sources would be to link it by where those sources "come from" like how the Movement of the World was written by Decimus in the Guild Wars universe. With that in mind, I would have to keep a keen eye on my sources and it would be a little troublesome for "citing my work."
Perhaps I could make a non-journal version and a journal version at the same time to counter that . Those who want a lore informational read can look at the non-journal version and those who want a lore-based read can read the journal entries.
That's the best way I can see things happening with the second project (which is the one I'm more interested in doing as well.
