[:1]This isn't a lecture or paper, just a discussion about Menzies. We know who Dhuum is, we even know who Abaddon is, but Menzies still remains more or less a mystery.
There are three main theories on Menzies, which I will briefly summarize:
1) The God Theory:
Some feel Menzies is a god, like his half-brother Balthazar.
2) The Less Entity Theory:
Some feel Menzies is not a god, but rather, a lesser entity like the Mursaat or Seers who has ambitions of godhood by usurping power from his half-brother Balthazar.
3) The Abaddhuumenzies Theory:
Some feel that the names "Abaddon", "Dhuum", and "Menzies" all refer to the same outcasted sixth god of the pantheon.
Until recently, a stumbling block in the way of Menzies status as a god was the fact that he is called the "Lord" of Destruction, rather than the "God" of Destruction. However, in the new Nightfall Manuscripts, the gods are refered to as the Lords and Ladies of their respected spheres, rather than the old form of gods. This seems to suggest that Menzies may indeed be a god, but is not confirmed.|||Ok Quintus, I have had a bit of a theory regarding the whole meznies being balthazar's half brother thing. I think we may be dealing with a type of Titan scenario. Titan's being the original greek mythological titans who existed before the well known greek pantheon (Zeus, Hermes etc...)
Uranus(sky titan) was king and Gaia(Earth titan) the queen. Their children were born and became the gods(though they were still referred to as titans) of each aspect of the earth, Water and time etc.
Cronus the youngest born titan, the most devilish and the titan of time usurped his fathers place and bore a new set of children with rhea, these being the well known pantheon who eventually overthrew him and the other titans.
I think we might have a Titan type situation here but the only differance being that balthazar(the good guy) won out. With dwayna being the oldest goddess i assume that she is our Gaia. I'm not sure who the father(s) are/is however.
My main theory regarding the half-brother title involves the mating of dwayna with grenth(him being the only possible father of balthazar that we know of) and either Dhuum or Abbadon. My reasons for asuming this is that the spawn of 2 just gods(Dwayna&Grenth) would be just so therein Balthazar.
The spawn of Dwayna and an unjust god (Dhuum or Abbadon) would be corrupt, aka Menzies.
This dual mating would justify the half-brother and the fact that Menzies has the same basic atributes as Balthazar but is evil.|||It should also be noted that the Abadhuumenzies theory has been disproven.
The thing we also have to consider about Menzies is that his units consist of animatede shadows. This makes sense, Balthazar being the god of fire, and war, both cast a type of shadow. Flickering flames cast shadows, and war is often described as a "shadow" over whatever is being fought.
If you have the time and intrest, check out the exit from the Domain of Fear into the Domain of Pain. I want you to notice that there are statues of Balthazar surrounded by Menzies' Shadow Army. Notice how the statues are completely jet black. Are they statues of Balthazar? Or statues of Menzies? Is Menzies just a shadowy reflection of his brother?|||Quote:

Upon kneeling at these jet black statues when your region has favor, is the Champion of Balthazar summoned?|||A lot of the god statues in Elona are colored black.|||There are real mythological stories in some cultures of Gods mating with humans and the son/daughter being a demi-god type of thing. Is it possible Menzies is not quite a God, but is a very powerful being outcasted by the Five. Obviously the Gods are supposed to be older than humans but I think it's possible he is a much younger half-brother of Balthazar who is wishes Godhood for himself.
Edit: Also, he wouldn't neccessarily have to be off God+Human descent.|||Quote:

Nope. I don't believe so. I may be wrong. Feel free to check to confirm or deny.|||none of the statues in DoA have the avatars show up when you get favor...i guess its cuz its beyond the reach of the gods or something.|||While I do believe that the statues represent Menzies, I don't necessarily believe Menzies looks like a dark Balthazar. However, I believe that his corruption has "claimed" the statues of his brother, so to say.|||Interesting theory Quint, but if all the other statues no longer show avatars then it's kinda disproven. Unless Anet introduces more god realms with new enemies of the gods *hint hint*
