Hypothetical question: Tengu vs Harpy who wins?

[:1]Which way is the correct way of bird evolution?

The flightless Tengu who abandoned flight for strength, health and endurance, or the Harpy who uses flight and agility for hit and run attacks?

The Tengu who adopted a tribe culture, or the Harpy who kept its bird nesting ways?

The Tengu who stubbornly hang on to whatever little territory they have, or the Harpy that flies anywhere and raid anyone they want?

My opinion is that Tengus fairs better, but they are not true birds anymore. Other than the looks Tengus are just like humans. They are birds in name only.|||It depends on the ecological niche they're trying to fulfill. I think harpy because there's a lot less flight-capable humanoid races, hence less competition for the kind of resources the harpies are good at getting.

They can still evolve smarts etc with time, whereas it's less likely that the tengu will regain flight.|||I don't know that I believe there's a common ancestor between the harpies and tengu...Unless it's buried deep in their background. The tengu are fully feathered, whereas the harpies' wings are the only mainly feathered part of their body. They also, as I recall, have more humanlike hands, whereas the tengu's are reminiscent of their avian origins.

Either way, the tengu developed more sophisticated thinking processes, while the harpies are still kind of on the low end in that area, being attracted to shiny objects and all. Given that affinity, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to lure them out and ambush them.

So...I'd probably say the tengu. Though, as Alaris suggests, depending on the ecological niche both are trying to fulfill, they may not even be compelled to competition. Although, considering that, I'd also probably say harpies, but given your question is versus, I'd still say tengu.|||Tengu.

* They knew about rspike before the HA scrubs did.

* They have an attack skill named after one of them.

* You can easily solo harpies in Tihark Orchard but soloing the tengu outside of Droks is a whole different matter (IIRC anyway).|||Quote:

That describes pretty much all GW players...

ahem, but on topic, to me it depends, Tengu overall are tougher and would have a good chance to eliminate Hapries, but the Harpies have decent rezzing and healing capabilities which could turn the tide if the Tengu didn't prioritize their targets...

I'd post more but I just saw something shiny.|||Tengu. They have Honor.|||Like Leon, I don't think they have common ancestry - I would say that harpies may not be avian at all, save for their wings. They appear much more akin to what Elonian legends claim them to be - fallen servants of Dwayna (aka: fallen angels).

In terms of evolution, the tengu seem to be going down (having lost the ability to fly), but I don't think the harpies "evolved" in any way. Legends, theories, and rumors within the GW-universe tend to be correct to some degree.|||Tengu. They have their own city in GW2. (See GuildMag Issue 5)
